Do u like Spore? What if a Sporean propose to u in future?
My view of the Singaporean lifestyle is an antagonistic one. I had always wanted to get PR status in my sec. sch days, for all the benefits it coughs out while I maintain my Malaysian citizenship. Hvg mingled with Sporeans for 2 decades, it is not true to label all of them as “Kiasu, Kiasi, Kiabor” or their well-publicized 5Cs! I’ve learnt to identify Sporeans and Malaysians apart, with some sharpened skills over the yrs. (This skill doesnt work for some exceptions). For one, many cant tell my nationality. Maybe my camouflaging talent has reached a pinnacle? Haha...Or perhaps, I’ve been swept along by Spore’s Newwater?
I like certain facets of Spore- her efficient transport system, her clean (Green part, Msia offers more...hee hee...) city, her non-corruption in her govt., her meritocracy etc. Many of my elderly relatives adore the Community Clubs where they can gather for Tai Chi or a game of chess. To them, Spore is a peaceful country to retire. But, maybe plucking rambutans off branches or trimming a pot of bonsai is my vision of retirement - a much slower pace of life, after the numerous yrs of rat race for the rice sack. Somewhere I can plant my papaya trees in my backyard, feed the Japanese kois in my feng shui pond instd of being caged up in pigeon holes. (Sorie to all my Sporean frens reading this. Pls dun bash me up.) I still think Msian lifestyle is more carefree after all.
Confer me PR status, anytime. But I do hold certain hesitations if u dangle a Singapore Citizenship offer rite in my face. I can adapt to both countries w/o much complains and have been transversing btwn them so frequently tt I became a hybrid. Both cultures aren’t very contrasting, juz tat, preference dates back to my childhood roots.
My parents are already mentally prepared shd I turn Sporean upon marriage one fine day. Or shd I say, I’d also warned them abt my possibility of not marrying at all. I think they fear the latter than the former. Hahaha... Seriously, at this stage, I really duno how to answer the 2nd qn. I dun rule out the possibilities. But it deps on a case by case basis. Somehow, im more concerned with WHO I intend to live with for the rest of my life. That, to me, is a much more exterminating factor than WHERE I intend to live.
